Comrades,The call for proposals to host the 2023 National Convention of the Socialist Party USA is now open!

The National Convention is the highest regularly-meeting decision making body of the Party. For three days, elected delegates from throughout the country will convene to debate and vote on resolutions on the Party platform and principles, as well as other resolutions submitted later in the year. The 2023 convention will also be asked to decide on the Socialist presidential ticket for the 2024 election.

Proposal to host an in-person convention will be accepted from members, locals, and state organizations now through May 1st. Proposals will not be accepted or considered after May 1st.

After the May 1st deadline, the National Committee will vote on all properly submitted proposals, alongside a proposal for a fully-virtual convention, to determine the best option for our 2023 convention. We anticipate announcing the National Committee’s decision in mid-May.

Proposals can be e-mailed to the National Office at natsec@socialistparty-usa.org. For a proposal to be considered by the National Committee, it must include all of the following components:

• Proposal for a meeting room/venue to hold at least fifty in-person attendees for three days in October or November 2023 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

• The meeting room must have the A/V capabilities and WiFi necessary to include delegates attending virtually in the convention proceedings. If the location does not provide A/V equipment (projector, microphone, etc.), rental costs must be included with the proposal.

• Information on mass transportation options (air, rail, bus) to the host city and meeting location.

• Information on lodging options within reasonable distance from the meeting location, including but not limited to hotels, AirBnB, and Party members volunteering to house convention attendees who cannot afford their own accommodations.

• A listing of all area Party members willing to serve as on-the-ground organizers for the convention. If your bid is selected, these will be the members responsible for working with the National Office and other Party officers on planning, coordinating, and carrying out the convention.

• Proposal for a fundraiser to take place during the weekend, such as an evening banquet or raffle.

• All costs associated with the proposal, including meeting room rental and A/V equipment rental, must be included in the proposal.
